![]() That said, this is one of those cars that makes no bones about the fact it’s built for comfort rather than speed, and in this world of egregious faux-sportiness that’s rather pleasing. Yes, the body leans over more than it would in, say, a BMW X3, but thanks to the keen way it turns into corners, the well weighted, informative steering, and a huge reserve of grip on tap, the Disco Sport is still a pleasure to hustle along, if that’s your wont. Storage for bits and bobs is a little meagre, and taller drivers might find their left knee knocks into the jutting dashboard from time to time, but on the whole there’s a decent amount of room.įor all that, though, this is still a very enjoyable car to spend time schmoozing about in. The front seats are comfortable – neither too big nor too small, you might say – and the driving position is excellent, with armrests placed right where your elbows need them – a trait overlooked in most cars. Likewise, the panel of touch-operated controls below for the heating and ventilation is trickier to faff with than physical buttons when you’re on the move, but the rotary dials to adjust the temperature – one of which doubles as the terrain response selector – work well, and the large gaps between the controls at least means you don’t end up accidentally pressing two at once. The central screen looks good, too, though its menu system is a little labyrinthine and at times it can be distractingly slow to respond to your touches. The new interior is a huge improvement, and just as classy as anything you’d find in a BMW X3, Mercedes GLC or Audi Q3. The rest of the range gets this latter set-up as standard, although you can switch to a five-seat interior layout should you wish to at no extra cost. The cheapest diesel, however, only comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, five seats and front-wheel drive, and it isn’t a mild hybrid.įor an additional £4,850, however, you can add the hybrid gubbins you also get a nine-speed automatic gearbox with seven seats and four-wheel drive into the bargain. The exterior also sees a more modern makeover. Space is also a welcome feature of the Discovery Sport both front and rear seat riders have good space for a compact luxury SUV. The style of the cabin is improved, with better looking and feeling materials. The instrument panel is now digital, gauges and the large 10-inch touch screen are better responding. Its modern, clean and shares the look of the pricey Range Rover. Now, enter the upscale makeover for the refreshed 2020 Discovery Sport. While its more capable than other smaller SUVs it competes against, in past the interior seemed to be a step or two behind.
